$50 for 50 by 50 #26: Habitat for Humanity Los Angeles

I’m turning 50 this year and instead of whining about it, I’m trying to do something positive by donating $50 to 50 different charities before I’m 50 years old.

Since our founding in 1990, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (Habitat LA) has built, rehabilitated and repaired more than 700 homes locally.

Habitat LA helps to build affordable housing in 112 cities and unincorporated areas in Los Angeles County, including 70 communities within the City of Los Angeles.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people.

In short, Habitat welcomes all individuals and companies who donate used building materials, volunteers, and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion.

As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

$50 for 50 by 50 #25: Water.org

I’m turning 50 this year and instead of whining about it, I’m trying to do something positive by donating $50 to 50 different charities before I’m 50 years old.

Water is a fundamental human need, yet 660 million people worldwide lack access to safe water. 2.4 billion people worldwide lack access to a toilet. When it takes everyday hours to find and collect water, it’s hard to find time for commerce and community. It’s hard to get through a full day at school. It’s hard to prosper without safe water.

We are Water.org. We’re here to bring water and sanitation to the world. We want to make it safe, accessible and cost-effective because we believe that water is the way to empowering a better life that we can all share in, worldwide.

We are an international nonprofit organization that has positively transformed more than four million lives around the world through access to safe water and sanitation. Founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, we have been pioneering innovative, sustainable solutions to the global water crisis for 25 years, giving women hope, children health and communities a future.
